Playa Del Carmen Birthday Trip ~ April 2024

In the Thompson Hotel in Playa Del Carmen

My birthday is in April and for it decided to go to Playa Del Carmen in Mexico. My sister lives in Mexico with her husband, so I'm always visiting them whenever I’m able. This past April for my birthday, I decided to truly do something for myself for my birthday. I wanted to go out of the country for my trip for my birthday and I had such an amazing and fun time celebrating myself in Mexico and visiting my sister down there!

The first day that I got there, I was eager to wake up and walk around the strip in Playa Del Carmen. I went to get breakfast and then I walked around to all the different shops along the tourist strip in Playa. I went into this cool Buddhism store that had a lot of spiritual things: incense, seat pillows, traditional hair wraps, themed jewelry. For the most part, that day was chill. I eventually went back to the hotel and hung out at the rooftop pool before I met up with my sister to get dinner later.

The next day, it was my birthday!! For my birthday, I wanted to go to the beach club and be there for most of the day so that's what I did. I stayed at the Thompson Hotel in Playa Del Carmen at their main house. The Thompson Hotel in Playa has two hotels: one is called the main house and the other is the beach house. The beach house was just a few blocks down the strip, away from the hotel. If you stay at the main house, you have access to the beach house where there was the pool, food services, and access to the beachfront chairs and beds. Then later at night for my birthday dinner, I met up with my sister, brother-in-law, and one of their friends who was leaving Playa. The restaurant was called Harry's: it's attached to the Thompson, so it didn't take long for me to get there. I had a great 3-course meal, my sister had a custom birthday cake made for me that came out looking amazing! I had so much fun that night :)

My sister and I also took a taxi to Tulum to go to this beautiful hotel that also has this grandiose outdoor architecture that is built from a tree. The place is called Azulik and it's in a jungle in Tulum. It took about an hour to drive from Playa to Tulum and then around another 30 minutes to drive to the jungle where Azulik was. It's one of those things where it's hard to describe exactly what it looked like because... there's plants and trees everywhere! The pictures I have below do a good job of showing what it looked like on the inside, but you should really go to Tulum and check it out for yourself. This was an Airbnb tour that we took to tour the outdoor Azulik architecture and it was breathtaking. The amount of work and detail that was put into the creation is amazing. I loved that we had to take our shoes off while we were going through the tour because it really made me feel grounded and one with the earth.

Mexico has always been a big spiritual place for me to visit and expand my spiritual journey. I've always had such amazing spiritual insight every time I go to visit Mexico. I was so grateful that my sister was able to give me a healing sound bath for my birthday while I was there. I love sound bowls: music is a part of my life and it's never going away. Sound bowls have significantly aided in my life along my healing journey. My sister does sound bowl healing where she takes the sound bowls, puts them on different areas of your body, and plays them while they're on you. The vibrations from the sound bowls on your body help to remove stagnation that makes you feel stuck in life. I love doing this kind of healing with sound bowls and frequencies because it helps me a lot. If you ever do something like this for yourself, whether it be in Mexico or just sitting at home listening to a sound bowl video on YouTube, I really recommend journaling afterwards. There's so much energy that is being moved out of you, and your body and subconscious mind are both trying to work back together so you can live the life that you want to live.

I am always so blessed and grateful to be able to go on these kinds of trips that help recharge and relax me mentally, spiritually, emotionally, and physically too. Remembering to slow down and take time to rest and recharge is so important in today's world because of the many obstacles that we face every day. I loved this trip and I love whenever I go to Mexico because of the amazing time that I have there. Interacting with the people, eating the great food, learning more about the culture, I absolutely love all of it and I am so excited to be going back there soon!
